John Holyfield

John Holyfield, widely considered one of the top African American contemporary artists, was born and raised by his grandmothers in Clarksburg, West Virginia after being orphaned as a child. Despite the challenges that he experienced as a youth, Holyfield went on to study Graphic Design at Howard University and at the University of Washington, D.C. His artwork evokes fond memories of life’s experiences. The theme of Holyfield’s artwork focus on family, childhood memories and stories from his grandmother. His work has been featured in TV shows and literature. He is also an acclaimed illustrator of children’s books. John’s mission continues to “exhalt the beauty of the Black experience through imagery that celebrates Black folks.”
