John Holyfield
John Holyfield, widely considered one of the top African. American contemporary artists, was born and raised by his grandmothers in Clarksburg, West Virginia after being orphaned as a child. Despite the challenges that he experienced as a youth, John Holyfield went on to study Graphic Design at Howard University and at the University of Washington, D.C. after his interest and talent in art was discovered at a young age. “I feel very fortunate to have found my “purpose” in life at such an early age. My art is truly an extension of myself… my voice. My goal is to reaffirm every positive aspect of being African-American by focusing on our families, our spirituality and our heritage and traditions. I believe that every race can relate because, in essence, I am shining a tight on the beauty of being human.” John Fiolyfield’s artwork will evoke fond memories of your life’s experiences, and hopefully they will influence the young minds and hearts of generations to come. John’s interest switched to fine art with themes focused on family, childhood memories and stories from his grandmother. His work has been featured in tv shows, literature and children’s books. John’s mission continues to “exhalt the beauty of the Black experience through imagery that celebrates Black folks.”
