Elizabeth Catlett
One of Elizabeth Catlett’s most powerful and revered pieces, “There’s A Woman in Every Color” encapsulates the strength and stoicism of African femininity. It juxtaposes two identical yet inverted images of a woman of African descent, built from sharp, geometric shapes. Lying perpendicular to the two renderings of the woman are 11 graphic representations of women, spanning a rainbow of color.
